Welcome to Mama Making Things! I’m Rachael, the creator behind the scenes. I’m a stay-at-home mom to my crazy little toddler and expecting my next little soon. I’ve always loved being creative and all things DIY even before kiddos. In my previous life as a financial analyst, my crafts used to be just a hobby for me and my loved ones. Now that I’m at home with my littles, I enjoy having a little time to myself to create custom items for others.

I started my small business journey just selling things on a local mom’s group on Facebook. I actually started it Oct. 2025, by testing out selling Elf on the Shelf kits for moms under my separate business, Crafty Mama Elf. In the first year that I had my little I really just focused on my little, my family and house things and it was the first time I was doing something for me to use my creative side again. I expected to sell maybe 10 kits at most and ended up selling 48 before I had to tell customers I couldn’t make any more because I ran out of supplies. It made me so happy that holiday season to bring smiles to so many little faces and to be a tiny part of what made the holiday special for local families. Not to mention making the nightly elf set up easier for fellow mamas!

Once I had completed all the elf kits, I turned to making other custom-made items for local moms. From holiday treat favors, custom presents, custom printed cards, custom-made graduation caps and so much more; I just couldn’t get enough. I decided it was time to just officially start Mama Making things and expanding my creative portfolio!

I must say I think the most exciting work I do is when I have a request from someone to try something new that they’ve been looking for! I know we’ve all found ourselves on Pinterest before looking at something we love but have no idea where to start to make or buy - that’s where I come in! I’m of course always honest about my limitations or equipment I have, but to date I’ve only had to say no to two projects because I just didn’t have the right equipment to fit their vision. Having a customer say “OMG I love it” is my favorite thing and what keeps me going!
